Ring in the new year with HCDPL

The Holmes County District Public Library is already planning programming to ring in the new year. Call the library at 330-674-5972 for more information or to register for any events.

Take and make craft kits for teens at the Central Library or East Branch Library can be picked up to make DIY clipboard calendars. Kits will be available at the beginning of January.

The 2022 Read Through the Year Reading Challenge for adults will begin Monday, Jan. 3. Sign up at the Central Library (on paper) or through Goodreads (online). Set your reading goal, meet it and be entered to win the grand prize of a $100 Amazon gift card. Smaller prize raffles of a $25 Walmart gift card and a $10 Jitters gift card also are available.

Story Celebrations at the East Branch will be Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Kids age 2-5 with an adult are welcome for stories, songs, rhymes and more.

LEGO Building Challenge will be at the Central Library on Thursday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. for age 6-12.

Story times will take place at the Central Library on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Kids age 2-5 with an adult are invited for stories, songs, rhymes and more.

Movie Night at the Central Library will be Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. After enduring a terrible tragedy, a father experiences a divine intervention from a group of strangers, in order to heal his grief. Call the library for the PG-13 movie title.

Teen Nerf Night will be at the Central Library on Wednesday, Jan. 12 from 5:30-7 p.m. Kids age 11-16 can play capture the flag and more. Some Nerf items are available or bring your own. Snacks and drinks are provided. Registration is required.

Saturday Family Movie Matinee at the Central Library will be Saturday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. Enjoy a family-friendly movie and bring a lawn chair or blanket, snacks, and a drink with a lid. Children must be with an adult. Call the library for the movie title.

Sock Snowman Crafting at the Central Library will be Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. Craft a wintry snowman out of socks, rice and a few embellishments. Registration is required.

A book discussion for adults will take place at the Central Library on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. about “The Giver of the Stars”by Jojo Moyers, and at 6 p.m., “The Starless Sea” by Erin Morgenstern will be discussed. Copies of these books are available for check-out at the Central Library help desk.

Yarntastic Fun at the Central Library will be Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 6 p.m. for age 8-12. Registration is required.
